1st Line Defence were commissioned to undertake a non-intrusive UXO magnetometer survey as part of a project on the Essex coast.

The walkover survey was undertaken by a two-person team and the results of the survey were sent back to our in-house geophysicists for processing and interpretation. A large number of targets were modelled, a selection of which were recommended for investigation.

A target investigation team was dispatched to relocate these anomalies using GPS. Each of the targets was found to be ordnance or ordnance-related – understood to be related to a nearby historic firing range. The target list was increased to cover 100% of anomalies. Over 600 items of UXO were recovered including many live weapons. All were safely removed/dealt with allowing the project to continue safety.
