1st Line Defence has announced a new leadership structure, with Rhiannon Redhead appointed as Managing Director and company founder Brett Kinsman transitioning into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The appointments mark an important milestone in the company's development, strengthening its leadership team and creating a clear framework to support operational improvements, long-term growth and continued delivery of reliable unexploded ordnance (UXO) risk mitigation services.
Having established 1st Line Defence 14+ years ago, Brett has overseen the company's growth from a small business into an established and respected provider of UXO services across the UK and internationally.
As the business has developed, so too have the demands of managing its day-to-day operations alongside longer-term strategic responsibilities. The restructure reflects a considered approach to ensuring the company has the right leadership structure in place for its next chapter.
Rhiannon's appointment represents a significant achievement in her career with 1st Line Defence and highlights the company's commitment to recognising and developing talent from within.
Joining the business in 2019 as a Senior Account Manager, Rhiannon progressed to Commercial & Business Services Director, taking on increasing responsibility and developing a comprehensive understanding of the company's commercial operations and wider business activities.
Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to the company, a practical approach to decision-making and the leadership qualities required to guide the business forward.
Commenting on Rhiannon's appointment, Brett Kinsman said:
"When I founded 1st Line Defence over 14 years ago, I could never have imagined just how far the business would come. We've achieved a great deal together, and I'm incredibly proud of the people who have helped make that possible.
"Rhiannon has consistently demonstrated the commitment, determination and leadership qualities needed to take the business forward. I still remember interviewing her back in 2019 and asking where she saw herself in the future. Her response was simple: 'I want to sit in your chair.'
"Seven and a half years later, I'm delighted to see her achieve that ambition. She's earned this opportunity through hard work, professional development and a genuine understanding of our business, and I have every confidence in her ability to lead 1st Line Defence into its next chapter."
As Managing Director, Rhiannon will assume responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and management of 1st Line Defence, working closely with the company's directors, managers and wider team.
Her priorities will include strengthening operational performance, improving accuracy and consistency across departments, supporting sustainable profitability and creating a positive working environment where employees feel valued and supported.
The restructure will also enable Brett to focus more closely on the company's long-term strategy, business development, innovation and future opportunities while remaining actively involved in the organisation.
Speaking about her appointment, Rhiannon Redhead said:
"I'm incredibly proud to be taking on the role of Managing Director at 1st Line Defence. Having grown professionally alongside the business over the past seven years, I understand the strengths of our team, the challenges we face and the opportunities we have to continue improving.
"My focus will be on building a positive, supportive working environment, strengthening how we operate across departments and ensuring we remain commercially focused while maintaining the high standards our clients expect.
"I'm looking forward to working with Brett, our leadership team and everyone across the business as we build on what we've already achieved and take 1st Line Defence forward together."
The leadership changes take effect immediately, with Brett and Rhiannon working closely together over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
For clients and industry partners, the restructure represents continuity alongside a renewed focus on operational excellence. The company's established expertise, commitment to safety and comprehensive approach to UXO risk mitigation will remain central to its service delivery.
With a strengthened leadership structure, 1st Line Defence is looking ahead with confidence, building on 14+ years of experience while continuing to invest in its people, improve business performance – and deliver practical UXO services for projects across the UK and beyond.
