1st Line Defence is delighted to announce that our Silver Award has been re-validated in the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) 2020 Awards for East Anglia, which recognises our on-going support to the Armed Forces Community and Defence people in the UK.

The ERS Awards continues to grow in strength each year, it was launched in 2014 by the Prime Minister to recognise employer support for the wider principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.

The scheme advocates the benefits of supporting those within the Armed Forces community, encouraging others to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and to engage with local communities.

This year’s 127 award winners join a group of 226 winners from previous years bringing the total to 353 organisations who can share their knowledge and experience on the benefits of employing those from the Armed Forces community.

Johnny Mercer, Minister for Defence People and Veterans commented:

“The breadth and diversity of the winners this year shows how business support for the Armed Forces continues to grow no matter the sector, company size or location. I am grateful for the positive attitude and flexible policies these organisations have adapted towards the defence community, which is testament to the fantastic contribution our serving personnel, veterans and their families can make to any organisation.

I am delighted that so many companies are supporting our people and that, through this scheme, we can give them the public recognition they deserve.”

Kristina Carrington, Regional Employer Engagement Director said:

“2020 has been a phenomenal year for us in terms of employer engagement and I would like to offer my thanks and congratulations to all thirty organisations. Amongst them are four companies that have had their Awards re-validated. A Silver Award is granted for a period of five years and when a company has theirs re-validated, it highlights their continued support to the Defence Community.”

Silver Award holders must demonstrate support for Defence by employing at least one individual from an Armed Forces Covenant category – Reservist, Veteran, Military spouse/partner or Cadet Force Adult Volunteer – and actively communicating /projecting a positive image of Defence to their employees via established HR policies and procedures.

Many of our staff in the Operations Team have joined us directly following their transition from the Armed Forces, bringing valuable skills and knowledge gained during their years of service.

The Silver Award reflects our continuing support of these communities and our commitment to providing the best possible conditions for new service leavers looking to build a new career in Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).

We are proud of this significant achievement and will continue working hard and striving towards achieving even better things in 2021.

Congratulations to all organisations across the UK who have received their #SilverERS2020 award.
