Road closures have been lifted after an ‘unexploded artillery shell’ was discovered by builders.
Police blocked off roads around Edgewater Place in Latchford on Tuesday after officers were called at 3.40pm. A bomb disposal team were called this morning, Wednesday, but the controlled explosion has been delayed and entry to Thelwall Lane remains restricted.
It is understood the explosion was carried out at around 8.45am.
The find highlights the importance of considering UXO risk during construction work. We always recommend that a UXO Risk Assessment is undertaken prior to construction work.
Such an assessment would highlight any potential risk and give guidance on how it can be mitigated and what to do in the event that a suspect item is encountered.
